Dr. Morgenstern can help you feel better[/et_pb_slide][/et_pb_fullwidth_slider][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fullwidth=”off” specialty=”off”][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”1_2″][et_pb_accordion admin_label=”Accordion”][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Neurology”]Neurology focuses on the treatment of conditions of the brain, spinal cord and nerves which extend throughout the bodies limbs, muscle, and skin. We commonly evaluate and treat symptoms of pain and other neurological disorders including:
-Headache (migraine, tension, chronic daily headache)
-Dizziness (vertigo, imbalance, lightheadedness)
-Pain (neck, low back, arm, leg, hand, foot, body, sciatica)
-Numbness (hands, feet, anywhere else)
-Memory problems
-Concussion and post-concussion syndrome
-Stroke and cerebrovascular disease
-Multiple sclerosis and demyelinating diseases
-Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders
-Dementia and neurodegenerative disorders (Alzheiemer’s disease)
Specialized testing:
-MRI
-MRA/V (MRI of blood vessels)
-EMG/NCV
-Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response (BAER)
-Videonystagmography
-Carotid/Transcranial Ultrasound
-Trigger point injections[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Headache”]Headache is extremely common. Frequent headaches can be really disabling, rarely it is a symptom of a more serious underlying condition. Tension headaches and migraine are the most common headaches we treat. There is no reason to go through life suffering from recurrent headaches. Our treatment focuses on eliminating pain and preventing them from happening. Our goal is to make you headache free. We are proud to say that besides from eradicating headaches we can often maintain our patients without headaches and reduce or completely stop their medication.
Warning: Sudden, severe headaches, headaches that occur after a blow to the head, or that is associated with fever, confusion, loss of consciousness could warn of a serious condition. It should be brought to a doctors attention immediately.[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Dizziness”]Dizziness is another frequent complaint seen in the outpatient neurology office. People often say they feel lightheaded, imbalanced or that the room is spinning, something we call “vertigo.”
Dizziness is a complex problem that may involve the brain, inner ear, eyes, spinal cord, nerves, heart and blood vessels. Sometimes, a drop in blood pressure or an infection can bring about dizziness. Irregular heart rhythms or arrhythmia can cause dizziness. Medications can cause dizziness and the list goes on. It can also be caused by a more serious neurological condition. Some dizziness gets better by itself. We conduct an extensive evaluation on all patients who present with dizziness to help narrow down the root cause and identify what can be done to help.[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Neck and Shoulder Pain”]Neck pain and shoulder pain can be caused by problems of the spinal column, joints, muscles, degenerative disease, strains, rarely more serious causes. We focus on identifying the type and cause of pain and alleviating it. We are always conservative at first. We use combinations of medication and physical therapy for most pain. We also coordinate care with a team of other specialists such as interventional pain management, spine and orthopedic surgeons to help ensure you receive comprehensive care.[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Low Back Pain”]The Spine is complex. Its muscles, roots, nerves, bones, and discs all play a role in its function and as a possible cause of pain. We coordinate a multidisciplinary evaluation of pain. Fortunately, we have many ways to treat pain including medication and physical therapy. If it is needed we also work with various skilled surgeons specializing on the spine and joints throughout the body.[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD)”]Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common disorder of childhood which can persist in adolescence and adulthood. Problems with staying focused, maintaining attention, concentrating, behavior and being overactive are common. When we evaluate ADD we look at it from a holistic perspective including neurology and sleep medicine. For example, many children who suffer from sleep deprivation or sleep apnea also exhibit similar symptoms. Those disorders don’t need lifelong medication to prevent. When medication is warranted, we treat ADD and ADHD to help improve quality of life.[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Seizures & Epilepsy”]Seizures can be provoked by illness, from substance use such as alcohol or as a side effect from a medication. Seizures may also be related to an underlying brain abnormality known as epilepsy. Most people associate seizures with losing consciousness and jerking movements. However, seizures may manifest as any type of sensory experience such as strange feelings, emotions, tastes, smells in addition to convulsions. Some people report smelling “burnt rubber,” a “rising sensation” in their stomach. We evaluate seizures, identify if epilepsy is present and treat it, if necessary with medication. We also monitor these medications for side effects and strive for longer-term seizure control in more difficult cases.[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Stroke”]There are more than 800,000 strokes in the United States annually. One of the most important things about treating stroke patients is ensuring they don’t have another one. Our management focuses on identifying why the stroke happened and how we can prevent another one as well as improving the quality of life after stroke.[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Neuropathy”]Peripheral neuropathy is damage to the peripheral nervous system that results in pain, numbness, tingling, weakness or other symptoms. This dysfunction is often experiences in the arms, legs, hands or feet. While many types of neuropathy exists we frequently see neuropathy caused by diabetes, alcoholism or injury to the nerve in the limb or where it exits from the spinal cord.[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Carpal Tunnel Syndrome”]Tingling, numbness or pain in the hand can be caused by compression of the median nerve as it passes through a narrow tunnel in the wrist. We specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome as well as other forms of nerve damage caused by compression of nerves as they course through the body.[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Multiple Sclerosis”]A disorder of myelin that circles that nerves in the brain and spinal cord, Multiple sclerosis (MS) affects people differently. In some it can be relatively mild in others somewhat disabling or devastating, as communication is broken down between the brain and body. Our care of individuals with MS involves preventing attacks, treating symptoms and reducing medication side effects. We are focused, as always, on providing the best quality of care for our patients.[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Memory Loss”]Memory is a complex function of the brain and relies on different cognitive tasks such as concentration, encoding, storage and recall. Forgetting things once in a while can be normal. However, we evaluate memory issues to ensure there is no reversible problem taking place. After evaluation, we sometimes find that replacing a vitamin can prevent long-term damage. Other times, we can provide other treatment to improve thinking and memory.[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Parkinson’s disease” /][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Dementia”]Dementia is a series of conditions that impair intellect and normal function. Losing ones ability to function is a terrible thing. However, we can sometimes identify reversible causes of cognitive function. When treated early enough brain function can be preserved and intellect restored allowing individuals to function normally. Some diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia and Parkinson’s dementia can also be treated to preserve function and improve intellect in those who are affected.[/et_pb_accordion_item][/et_pb_accordion][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″][et_pb_accordion admin_label=”Accordion”][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Sleep medicine”]Sleep medicine focuses on improving the quality and quantity of sleep. Unhealthy sleep and sleep deprivation are related to poor health, heart disease, obesity, depression and lower life expectancy. We evaluate and treat symptoms of sleep and sleep disorders including:
-Snoring
-Excessive sleepiness
-Insomnia
-Sleep apnea (obstructive & central)
-Sleep deprivation
-Restless legs syndrome
-Circadian rhythm disorders
-Advanced sleep phase syndrome
-Delayed sleep phase syndrome
-Narcolepsy
-Hypersomnia
-Sleep walking/talking
Sleep Testing includes:
-Polysomnography (PSG)
-Home sleep testing (HST)
-PAP titration studies
-Multiple Sleep Latency Testing (MSLT)
-Maintenance of Wakefulness Testing (MWT)[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Snoring”]
Snoring is caused by the vibration of tissues in the upper airway and throat. Many people think that snoring is benign. However, it is sometimes related to an abnormality of breathing during sleep called sleep apnea that can have long-term consequences if left untreated. We ensure that a sleep disorder is not present and, if snoring is bothering you, we have ways to stop it.
[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Sleep Apnea”]Sleep apnea is usually caused by partial or complete obstructions to breathing during sleep. It breaks up sleep, causing sleep deprivation, sleepiness and irritability. Longer term consequences include heart disease, stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure and depression. We use the most sophisticated techniques to detect even mild apnea. We offer sleep studies in our sleep study where polysomnography is performed as well as home sleep testing, where diagnosis can take place in your home. Various non-drug treatments exist for sleep apnea including continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) as well as oral appliances and sometimes surgery. We maintain close relationships with Durable Medical Equipment providers to ensure that our patients on CPAP get the highest level of attention to their needs.[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Insomnia”]Most people have experienced insomnia at some point in their life. The inability to fall asleep or maintain sleep can lead to dysfunction during the daytime. We diagnose insomnia, identify and reduce potential causes and treat it with and without medication. If you suffer from insomnia, don’t despair. We can help you sleep.[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Sleep deprivation”]Sleep deprivation can lead to poor health, heart disease, obesity, depression and lower life expectancy. While individuals usually think they can sleep more if they want, sometimes there is another reason for lacking sleep. We evaluate individuals with sleep deprivation ensuring they don’t suffer from a sleep disorder affecting breathing or their body’s instinct to sleep. We can help you get the sleep you need to improve your health and quality of life.[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Restless legs syndrome”]People with restless legs syndrome (RLS) experience abnormal, ill-defined, uncomfortable sensations of the legs that can be very disturbing. These sensations are often worse at night and are relieved by moving the legs around. Restless legs can be a symptom of another sleep disorder, related to medications and is sometimes reversible without medication. We help evaluate patients with RLS, to reverse root causes or medications that exacerbate it and use medication to relieve disturbing RLS symptoms.[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Sleep Walking and other parasomnias”]Sleep walking is more common in childhood, but sometimes persists in adulthood. We can help reduce the incidence of sleep walking or other parasomnias (eating, waking up confused etc.) and ensure that you stay safe when episodes take place.[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”REM Behavior Disorder”]REM behavior disorder is an abnormality of sleep where individuals become very active during dream states. Normally, your body keeps you paralyzed during REM and this prevents you from hurting yourself or others. Individuals with REM behavior disorder “act out” their dreams. They may unintentionally assault a bed partner or themselves trying to defend themselves from “attackers” in their dream. This disorder can sometimes be associated with developing neurological conditions later in life. It can sometimes be triggered by medical conditions or medications. It is also something that can be treated.[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Narcolepsy”]Patients affected with narcolepsy experience extreme sleepiness, often an irresistible urge to sleep and sometimes “sleep” attacks. These cataplexy attacks are triggered by strong emotion like laughing. It causes sudden weakness sometimes resulting in full body paralysis while a person is still awake. Management of the disorder involves reducing sleepiness and preventing cataplexy attacks.[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Excessive sleepiness”]Excessive sleepiness is one of the most common symptoms we evaluation. Going through life half asleep is not a fun thing. Excessive sleepiness can result in struggling to stay awake in a meeting, dozing off at the movies or even falling asleep behind the wheel. It is sometimes caused by sleep disorders of hypersomnolence such as idiopathic hypersomnolence or narcolepsy. It is also a common symptom of sleep apnea or insufficient sleep. Don’t go through life half asleep. We can help.[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Overnight Sleep study” /][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Sleep studies”]We offer several sleep technologies to diagnose and customize treatment of sleep disorders. Polysomnography in our overnight sleep lab allows monitoring of breathing, sleep stages, movement, and oxygen levels. It is useful to diagnose many sleep disorders and to observe and customize treatments for sleep disordered breathing like obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea. When used to customize care, an oral appliance or positive airway pressure (CPAP, ASV, BIPAP) is applied and customized to maximize the effect of treatment. Home sleep testing is a newer technology that can be used to diagnose sleep apnea, though it provides a less thorough evaluation of sleep. Multiple Sleep Latency and Maintenance of Wakeful testing can be used to objectively measure an individuals sleepiness or their ability to stay awake.[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Home sleep study” /][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Circadian rhythm disorders”]Advanced
